Known as the “Sultan of Cities” by locals, Edirne welcomes visitors with its magnificent Selimiye Mosque, an imperial Ottoman mosque built in 16th Century by one of the empire’s greatest architects, Mimar Sinan, who referred to it as his “masterpiece”. UNESCO  World Heritage lists Selimiye Mosque and its complex  as one of the most sophisticated and highest achievements of its era. 

Apart from Selimiye mosque  Edirne previously known as Adrianople until it was conquered by the Ottoman Empire in the 14th century, is home to a series of remarkable buildings built across the ages.

Selimiye Mosque – Materpiece of Achitect Sinan and a UNESCO World Heritage Site 

Eski Cami ( Old Mosque ) – 15th century Ottoman Mosque 

Uc şerefeli Cami – 15th Century Ottoman mosque known for its unusual minaret with three balconies. 

The Grand Bazaar of Edirne – Build in 16th Century by architect Sinan, very similar to Grand bazaar of Istanbul in much smaller scale. 

Beyazid II Complex and Health Museum  -  Build in 1488 the complex contains a hospital , medical center which remained in operation for centuries until the Russo – Turkish War in 1877. The hospital is especially notable for its treatment methods for mental disorders which included the use of music , water sound and scents. This museum has won the European Council’s Museum Award in 2004
