The Mountain of The Gods Nemrut

A monument of a mountain that is not easily found in other geographies. Located in the Kahta district of Adıyaman in Mount Nemrut and around its shoulders, the sculptures have attracted researchers and archaeologists for years with their secrets. This monumental tomb, built by Antiochus the 1st King of Commagene to show his gratitude to the gods and ancestors, has a unique atmosphere with its gigantic statues and views of both sunrise and sunset. The adventure of its discovery, which is full of secrets and enigmas, is as remarkable as the fact that it is one of the most magnificent ruins of the Hellenistic period.

Itinerary 

Day 1 – Take the direct flight from Istanbul and arrive at midday to Adiyaman. Your local guide will meet you at the airport and drive you to Kahta to start the tour of the day. 

Karakus Tumulus – Your first stop will be at Karakus Tumulus located in the southwest of the National park entrance. This Commagene memorial was built on behalf of the Queen Isias for Princesses Antiochis and Aka I by Mithridates II of Commagene in 30- 20 BCE. 

Because of the eagle on the column is referred to as Karakus Tumulus ( meaning black bird )  

Cendere Bridge - On the way to Arsemia, you will be passing through Cendere Bridge which reflects the ancient Roman architecture in a magnificent way. It is an interesting stone bridge with a width of seven meters , a height of thirty meters and a length of one hundred meters.  

Arsemia – This was the summer capital and administrative center of the Commagene Kingdom. 

According to King Antiochus  inscriptions, Arsemia was founded in the east of Kahta River by Arsemia, the ancestor of the Commagene in the early 2nd Century BC.  

Mt. Nemrut – You will be climbing up to Mt. Nemrut in time to see the sight before the sunset time and visit East and West Terraces.

Overnight in Adiyaman 

Day 2 -  After breakfast check out of the hotel and visit Pirin Ruins before transferring to Airport to take the 11:15 flight back to Istanbul
